Taras and Julia’s family is originally from Kherson, Ukraine. They were always actively involved in children’s and youth ministry — organizing camps and church events. They already had two sons, and life picked up speed when they decided to become a foster family.
One day, Julia came home with difficult news — six children she knew through a foundation were about to be split up and placed in different orphanages. Taras and Julia couldn’t accept that. After praying together, they decided to take all six children into their home.
With God’s help, the paperwork was processed quickly, and their church offered them a larger apartment. The children began to adjust, learn to trust, and their home was filled with joy.
But soon after, war broke out.
We woke up to explosions. The Kherson airport was burning, and Russian forces were getting closer. Our pastor came and said: "You need to leave. The situation is getting worse. Take the car and go as fast as you can." - recallsTaras
The children were terrified, but Taras smiled and asked, "Who wants to go to the mountains?" They all shouted, "Me!" and began packing their backpacks. With the sound of explosions in the background, they left their hometown and headed into the unknown.
Eventually, they arrived in Wrocław, where they found safety. The children now attend school, have made new friends, and are thriving. Despite the challenges, the family remains united—stronger and full of hope for the future.
We deeply admire Taras and Julia’s life of service in offering a safe home to children in need. We pray that God continues to guide them through these challenging times and provides the resources they need for stable housing.
